Then we dropped down through the forest to the Gorge D'Allier, crossing Pont Eiffel (not as grand as it sounds!) It would be a shame to leap off the train and start walking without taking some time to explore the town. A group of exhausted cyclists came up from the valley. Since we knew that the distance from Montbonnet to Monistrol d’Allier is only 14.5 km we allowed ourselves to walk at a leisurely pace. Le meilleur endroit pour faire une pause. We have been told that they dont operate til April 1 st. Is this correct? Is it very expensive to use a taxi to transfer a back pack 20 kms ? 14k (total 30.7) We are starting off with shorter distances to ease our feet and bodies into this hilly terrain:) No use getting blisters or tendonitis in the first few days of a long journey!
