Popeye may have been the most formulaic series in cartoon history, but some noteworthy episodes managed to buck the formula. He traps them in a metal garbage can, but they soon escape and launch a new attack, consuming his picket fence.

A very inventive cartoon and one of the studio's best. 10 out of 10 found this helpful. Will admit though to preferring the Popeye cartoons from the Dave Fleischer era, the cartoons tend to be funnier and there is more originality and more risk taking in some of them. Olive Oyl is a character created by Elzie Crisler Segar in 1919 for his comic strip Thimble Theatre (which was subsequently renamed after Popeye ever since the sailor character became the most popular member of the strip's cast).
