I can't say it redefines the coming-of-age genre, but it's a pretty damn strong addition regardless. Steinfeld begins her performance at fever pitch, then cranks it up. The casting is strong. The Edge of Seventeen est un film réalisé par Kelly Fremon Craig avec Hailee Steinfeld, Haley Lu Richardson. Switch The Edge of Seventeen is produced by Academy Award winner James L. Woody Harrelson is always great as the sarcastic, wisecracking asshole who, deep down, cares. What I mean by that is that, in spite of her father dying and losing her best friend (through her own actions and, basically, forcing Krista to choose between them), sometimes I'm just like 'first world problems, man'.

But, at the same time, while I would like to see a movie about a man my age, of my nationality, exploring issues that are relevant to me, that's not to mean that I cannot connect to a character of another nationality and, even, another gender just as long as I can relate to parts of the story and what the lead character might be going through.
The Edge of Seventeen promises to become, for many, a new favorite film.

The film industry is improving in that regard as, now, there's a lot more variety in casting lead roles than at any point in the past. December 2, 2016 April 28, 2020

Not going in-depth on that, because we'll be here forever. Read full review Now that's not because of anything any of my friends did or said, it was more my feelings of inadequacy. Her angst is palpable as she rebels against her emotionally needy mother, pines after one of the school bad boys, and with the perceived desertion of her one and only friend, finds the only person she can talk to is her teacher, Mr Bruner, played by Woody Harrelson.

It's an astonishing high-wire act, one of the most sustained and perceptive and complete performances I've seen in years. Nice to know that Hailee Steinfeld 's terrific turn in the 2010 "True Grit" wasn't a fluke. But, thankfully for Hailee, she was able to duplicate the great performance she had in True Grit but, obviously, in a completely different role in this movie.

Since it’s 2016, Nadine’s love note takes the form of a Facebook message to a good-looking bad boy named Nick (One of Craig’s many clever touches: The first time Nadine works up the nerve to talk to Nick, Spandau Ballet’s “True” queues up in the background in what has to be an homage to “Sixteen Candles.” Even the trying-on-clothes montage in preparation for her big night with Nick takes place through a different prism than you might expect. She doesn’t necessarily wrap everything up in a way that’s tidy and pleasing.Similarly, much of what makes Nadine so compelling is that fact that she isn’t always nice.

We want to hear what you have to say but need to verify your account. Ms Steinfeld was radiant and commanded the screen whenever she was on camera, The script accurately portrayed teenage angst without getting heavy handed or melodramatic and the denouement felt organically natural. THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN is a new coming-of-age movie in the vein of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club - an honest, candid, often hilarious look at what it's like to grow up as a young woman in today's modern world.
